Beads of Courage
http://www.beadsofcourage.net/
Mars volunteers have been meeting on a weekly - biweekly basis.
Contact Karen Dwyer to find out when the next meeting will be.
Currently volunteers are planning and working on:
RECYCLE FOR LIFE
Recycling Makes A Difference!
COTA patient campaigns will receive 100% of the current recycling value for each recylable cell phone and spent printer ink cartridge collected by their campaign volunteers. The amount varies per item and is determined by the recycler based on current market values.
You can participate by follwing these easy steps:
1. Set up collection sites in your community.
2. Spread the word about the need for used cell phones/ink cartridges and promote the collection dates and locations. HINT: There is a template for a press release in the Public Relations Coordinator Section in the Patient Campaign Volunteer Login of our website. Fill it in and email it to arlene@cota.org for approval before sending it out.
3. Collect a minimum of 25 used cellular phones and/or 50 ink cartridges.
4. Submit your Recycling Results Form to COTA via mail, fax or email. Forms are available at www.cota.org by following the Patient Volunteer link to Recycle for Life or by emailing jennifer@cota.org.
5. You will be sent mailing containers and labels containing identification specific to your campaign. Allow 2 weeks to receive your supplies.
6. Pack the phones and cartridges you collected and send them to the recycler. Please remember to pack cartridges and phones in separate boxes.
7. Funds will be dispersed approximately 60 days after recycled items are received.
It's easy to organize and promote. There's nothing to buy . . . so there's no cost to your campaign. And, it's environmentally friendly!
So, recycle for a reason . . . RECYCLE FOR LIFE!
From TJ's campaign -
It has been discussed that it would be nice to have one person be a collection person. Anyone who receives cartridges or phones can bring them to this person. When the box is full the Collection Person would mail it in and request a new box. If interested, please let Karen Dwyer know.

PAST EVENT
Indoor/Outdoor 5K walk/run
What - a NATIONWIDE 5K walk/run to raise funds for TJ
When - January 19, 2008
Where - WHEREVER you are! Park, track, indoor track, treadmill, mountain trail, ski run - ANYWHERE! 10 am Pacific, 11 am Mountain, 12 noon Central, 1 pm Eastern.
How - Contact Bethany Hall gsstarunner@yahoo.com for registration form, instructions and pledge sheet
This is an event thought of, developed, and being implemented by Lori's online friends. Several people wanted to help but getting everyone together in one location was going to be a logistical nightmare, there are people all over the country. So the thought became to do a kind of "virtual 5K".
This is a way for people everywhere to unite and help TJ & his family. The start time is staggered for time zones so everyone will be "Steppin Out" together at the same time.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join in. You can get a group together or go it alone, the choice is yours. You can do this anywhere. It may be chilly, so Malls, Home Treadmills, Gyms, or other indoor facilities might be a nice idea.
The distance is 5K, that's about a 1 hour walk for those of you who do time, not distance.
We hope you join us in "Steppin Out for TJ"
